5 Silent Signs You Have Termites in Your Perth Home

Termites often cause thousands of dollars in hidden structural damage before you ever see them.

The Silent Destroyers

Why Termites Are So Dangerous in Perth

Termites are often referred to as "silent destroyers" because they can chew through wood, flooring, and even wallpaper undetected. In Perth, where the climate is practically ideal for these pests, subterranean termites cause millions of dollars in structural damage every year.

If you notice any of these five silent signs, do not disturb the area or spray them with regular bug spray. Termites have highly sensitive survival instincts; if they feel threatened, they will simply abandon that feeding site and move to another, hidden area of your house, making them much harder to eradicate.

Instead, contact MasterGuard Pest Solutions immediately. Our licensed technicians have the specialized tools, such as thermal imaging cameras and moisture meters, to accurately locate the nest and implement a targeted, guaranteed eradication plan.

Warning Signs

The 5 Silent Signs

Here is exactly what to look for around your skirting boards, door frames, and brickwork.

01

1. Blistering or Hollow-Sounding Wood

Subterranean termites consume wood from the inside out. Wood that has been heavily damaged may sound hollow when tapped. You might also notice blisters in wood flooring that look similar to water damage.

02

2. Mud Tubes on Exterior Walls

Mud tubes are protective tunnels termites construct from dirt, wood particles, and their own saliva. Look for these pencil-sized tubes on your home's foundation walls, brickwork, or in your crawl space.

03

3. Discarded Wings Near Windows

On warm, humid days after rain, a mature termite colony will release winged "swarmers" (alates) to start new colonies. Finding small piles of translucent wings is a major warning sign.

04

4. Difficult-to-Open Doors and Windows

As termites eat through wood, they produce moisture. This excess moisture can cause the wood to warp or swell. If your doors suddenly become stiff, it could be hidden termite activity.

05

5. Frass (Termite Droppings)

Drywood termites leave behind tiny, wood-colored pellets called frass. As they excavate their galleries, they push these pellets out through small kick-out holes.
